Device Support Glossary

“Touch friendly”: Designed to avoid dependence on tooltips or drop-downs triggered by a mouse hover event, since touchscreen devices do not have mice. Larger buttons preferred, since fingers are less precise than mouse pointers. Right-side menus preferred, so that users do not have to reach over pages to access menus.

“Mobile friendly”: Full support for smart mobile devices, as described above. Page elements sized and arranged for small screen sizes, minimizing the need to zoom and scroll horizontally. Less cluttered displays with smaller page areas and more frequent page loads.

“Desktop friendly”: Full support for desktop, laptop, and full-sized touchpad computers. Page elements sized and arranged for these devices. More complete displays with larger page areas and less frequent page loads.

“Mobile aware”: Capable of detecting smart mobile devices automatically and applying appropriate page views. Capable of switching to Mobile View upon demand. Quick Response codes may be provided to improve convenience for mobile users.

“Desktop aware”: Capable of detecting most desktop browsers automatically and applying appropriate page views. Capable of switching to Desktop View upon demand.

*Many other browsers and mobile devices, including some “dumb” mobile devices, may be supported, but we make no claims regarding support for these other browsers and devices. Internet Explorer users are encouraged to update to version 9 as soon as possible due to limited standards support in older versions.
